About This Workshop
Understanding the adult ADHD experience from the inside out
ADHD is increasingly recognised in adulthood, yet many therapists and mental health professionals report feeling uncertain about how it presents in adult clients and how best to support neurodivergent experiences within therapeutic work.
This interactive CPD workshop focuses specifically on the adult presentation of ADHD, helping therapists develop a deeper understanding of how ADHD can shape a client's everyday life, relationships, work, identity, and emotional wellbeing.
Throughout the day we will explore how ADHD can present in adulthood, including differences in attention, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and rejection sensitivity. We will also consider the impact of growing up with undiagnosed or misunderstood ADHD and how experiences of criticism, shame, and repeated challenges can influence a client's sense of self.
Participants will gain insight into how the ADHD brain works, including the role of dopamine regulation and executive functioning differences, alongside an overview of adult diagnostic approaches such as the DIVA interview. Through reflective discussion, experiential exercises, and practical examples, the workshop will support practitioners to recognise adult ADHD presentations and develop ADHD-informed ways of working.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the day, you will be able to…
Recognise how ADHD may present in adults within the therapy room, including late-identified and internalised ADHD.
Understand how the ADHD brain processes attention, emotion, and executive functioning differently.
Identify the impact ADHD can have on relationships, work, identity, and emotional wellbeing.
Apply ADHD-informed approaches within therapeutic practice to support regulation, reduce shame, and work collaboratively with neurodivergent clients.
